As the title suggests, welcome to a whole new environment for a select area of the Alaskan coastline.

For those of you who have already frequented many hours in the previous releases of Misty Fjords & further south with Vancouver+, along with all the fine freeware add-on's presented collectively at Misty Moorings & Vancouver Landings, we present you with this website, Tongass Wild. Here you will hopefully find a refuge for the many add-on's, enhancements and the like that will no doubt, soon start being built all over the Tongass Fjords area.

The area covered is immense... roughly 27,000 sq. miles !! (by comparison, Misty Fjords covers approx. 22,000 sq. miles).

Personally, I've been 'virtually' flying with one of the many existing bush outfits, Bush Flying Unlimited (BFU), for a number of years & I can only say thank you in so many ways to Holger & crew for these excellent replacements for the Microsoft FlightSim 2004 environment.

Each time the FSAddon crew releases one of these enhanced sceneries, I know the BFU crew isn't the only outfit that gets excited.

With no runways in 99.9% of Alaska's & Canada's terrain in the early days of flying, bush planes were an important link in the discovery & exploration of the northwest. Floats, skis, wheels plus an innovative & adventuring spirit were required equipment for the job.

Pilots had to be prepared for intense cold, frozen oil, snapped parts, slushy snow & melting ice - all during a single journey. Necessity was the mother of adaptation & the mother of survival.

Luckily, we get to do all of this in a virtual environment !

Of the many routes possible within the Tongass Fjords area, a trip up the Sitkine River from Wrangell (PAWG / 68A) to Telegraph Creek (CBM5 / CAH5) affords pilots with many examples of the multitude of enhancements that have been made to this large area...

  • specific texture types, like muskegs, gravel bars & logging areas
  • settlement areas with custom buildings instead of generic autogen objects
  • elevation-dependent distribution of snow, which changes from month do month
  • and specific colors for rivers and lakes, such as brown or silty river water & turquoise glacial lakes.

Hopefully, this website will serve not only as your new jumping off point to the many cabins, harbours & airstrips that exist with Tongass Fjords, but also to the many potential add-on's that various dedicated virtual pilots will begin to create. A few of these add-on enhancements have already started popping up and can be found on this site.

As this is your website, any & all suggestions are received with enthusiasm. Please feel free to post questions, requests and / or ideas to either the TF forum, or simply by dropping me a quick email message.

As with any editor, any errors or ommissions that exist on the website, are my sole responsibility.
